Mike Plank - SS/Manager (Comets)

Mike managed the Philadelphia Comets to a 13 and 6 record, a GPMABL pennant, and the GPMABL Championship.  Mike has managed the Comets (formerly the Black Sox) since 1994 and notched the franchise's 100th win this season.  A Temple Law School graduate, Mike works for the Committee of 70, a Philadelphia good-government group.  Mike is 35 and lives in South Philadelphia with his wife, Josette, and daughters Madeline and Isabel.

Hector had 2 hits and made a nice catch on a foul pop near the stands to help the Charlie's Bar-Blue Rocks All Stars defeat the Comets-Tigers All Stars 11-7 at Frawley Stadium in Wilmington, DE. Hector played with the Philadelphia Comets for two years before joining Charlie's Bar this season. He led the Comets in hitting in 2000 and was chosen as the team's Sportsman of the Year in 1999. Hector is 22 and is employed by SEPTA. He lives in North Philadelphia with his wife Catherine and 4 year old daughter Sianie.

Jim Ward - 3B (Blue Rocks)

Jim went four-for-four with a double, three RBI and a run scored to lead the Blue Rocks to a 7-6 win over the Comets in the first game of the GPMABL championship series. Jim previously played in the Perkiomen League and at Ursinus College, where he participated in the College World Series twice and was a member of two conference championship teams. Jim is 23 and lives in Conshohocken. He is a graduate student at Temple University School of Dentistry.

Brett Mandel's four hits, Tommy Jackson's four runs, and Andy Batavick's five RBI help the offense and Fran Ciociola and Greg Reilley combine to allow two runs to lead the defense as the Comets advance to the GPMABL Championship

Four hits from Kevin Scott and three hits each from Joe D'Allesandro and Ryan Spang power the way as the Blue Rocks roll to join the fight for the GPMABL Championship Cup

Kevin Scott - OF (Blue Rocks) 

Kevin Scott went four for six with a double and three runs scored and one RBI to lead the Blue Rocks to a first round playoff win over Charlie's Bar. He also served as the third base coach when not batting, helping the Blue Rocks put 12 runs on the board. Kevin played baseball at Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky. While there, he hit .460 to break the school's single season batting average record. This is his second year with the Blue Rocks. He previously played two years in the South Florida MABL and won the Cy Young Award as that league's top pitcher.  Kevin is an art teacher at Ridley Middle School and serves as the pitching coach at Ridley High School. He is 27, has been married for four years and lives in Center City Philadelphia.

Ryan News - P (Blue Rocks) 

Ryan helped the Blue Rocks wrap up second place by pitching a complete game, striking out 10 while scattering three hits, three walks, and no earned runs. He also helped himself by going two for three with a single, a double, and a run scored.  Ryan is in his first year with the Blue Rocks. He previously played at Ridley High School and on Ridley Green Legion. He is 19 and works for Capozzoli Catering.  Ryan lives in Ridley Park, PA.

Phil Goodhead - P/OF (Charlie's Bar) 

Phil shut out the Tigers on seven hits as Charlie's Bar completed its first doubleheader sweep of the year. He also had two sacrifices at the plate to help push across enough runs for the win. Playing centerfield in the first game, he threw a runner out at the plate as Charlie's Bar pulled out another close win. Phil gets the offense started out of the leadoff spot, leading the team in on base percentage, walks and steals. He was part of the Northeast High School's public league championship teams in the late 1990s and also played American Legion ball. Phil works for RGIS in Philadelphia as an inventory analysis technician contractor. He is 21 and lives in Northeast Philadelphia.

Rafael Haciski - P/OF (Charlie's Bar) 

Rafael continued his strong all-around play for Charlie's Bar by going three for three with two runs scored in game two of the team's tough one-run loss to the Blue Rocks.  Rafael was one of the first players selected by Charlie's Bar during the GPMABL draft this spring, and has been a great help to first year manager Dave Steel on and off the field. He played three years as a pitcher, outfielder, firstbaseman and thirdbaseman at Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio, where he studied music composition. He still plays piano and guitar as a hobby and works as a computer engineer for advancedtele.com.  Rafael is 25 and lives with his wife in the Queen Village section of Philadelphia.

Joe Collins - 1B/C (Comets) 

Joe hit two home runs in the Comets' double header split with Charlie's Bar.  He began the day at first base and made an outstanding play to throw out a runner going to third base and complete a rare 6-3-5 double play.  After the Comets' catcher was injured early in the first game, Joe moved behind the plate and caught the final 11 innings of the double header.  Joe was instrumental in securing Deptford High School's varsity field for the GPMABL, and does a great job getting it in shape before and after games.  This is Joe's fourth year with the Comets.  He was the team's MVP last year.  Joe played NCAA Division I baseball at Seton Hall University alongside future major leaguers John Valentin, Craig Biggio and Mo Vaughn. He also played at Vineland High School and in several youth leagues in Salem County, NJ.  Joe is a CPA and is employed by the Deptford Township Board of Education. He is 32 and lives in Elk Township, NJ with his wife Michelle and son Quinn.

Jamie Bullen - P (Tigers) 

Jamie's pitching helped the Tigers take the second game of their double header with Charlie's Bar. He allowed two runs, both unearned, struck out six, scattered nine hits and didn't walk a batter in earning the complete game victory. This is Jamie's third season with the team. When not on the mound, he plays infield. He played at Sun Valley High School in Delaware County (PA) and at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. Jamie and his wife Debbie recently had their first child, Bryan. Jamie is 25 and lives in Ellicott City, Maryland.

Fran Ciociola - P (Comets) 

Fran led the Comets to a double header sweep of the Delco Tigers.  Fran pitched a complete game in the opener and added a single as the Comets won 7-4. In the second game, he stroked a 2-run triple, singled, walked and scored to help the Comets to a 6-4 victory. Fran played at Philadelphia University for 4 years, including 1990 when the team participated in the Division II College World Series. He also played semi-pro ball in the Tri-County (NJ) League from 1989 to 1999. Fran is employed as a Health and Physical Education teacher at Camden High School in Camden, NJ, and also serves as the pitching coach at St. John Neumann High School in South Philadelphia. He is 29 and lives in Washington Township, NJ.

Frank Kunze - C (Blue Rocks) 

Frank set the tone in a come-from-behind win in the first game of the Blue Rocks' double header sweep of the Comets. He smacked two doubles and drove in five runs and also threw out two runners attempting to steal 2nd base. This is Frank's first year with the Blue Rocks. He attended Interboro High School in Prospect Park, PA, and played club ball at Penn State University. Frank is a student at Villanova University School of Law.  He is 23 and lives in Norwood, PA.

Greg Baron - P/C (Blue Rocks) 

Greg got the Blue Rocks into the win column with a strong all-around performance.  Greg went the distance in game one, allowing just four hits while striking out 10 as the Blue Rocks prevailed 9-1. He also helped himself at the plate, going two-for-four with a triple, two runs scored, and two RBI; and in the field, making several outstanding plays.  Greg has played with the Blue Rocks for two years.  He previously played four years in the Luzerne (PA) Tri-County League and a year each at Luzerne County Community College and Temple University.  Greg is 25 and works as an architect/residential designer. He lives in Center City Philadelphia.

Jeff Farrell - P (Tigers) 

Jeff's pitching, hitting and baserunning led the Tigers to their first win of the season, a 12-3 victory over the Blue Rocks.  On the mound, he scattered eight hits while striking out three batters. At the plate, he went two for three with two walks. On the bases, he had four steals and scored four runs. This is Jeff's first year with the Tigers. He played previously with RJL Partners in the Delaware County MABL. He is 22 and works as a draftsman with C.E. Hough Associates, an architectural firm in Paoli. He lives in Clifton Heights, PA.

Dwight Steward - OF (Comets)

Dwight made two spectacular diving catches in centerfield to help the Comets shut out the Delco Tigers 7-0. He also hit two doubles and scored a run. Dwight joined the Comets last year.  Prior to that, he had most recently played at Bucknell University from 1992-1995. Dwight is 27 years old and works in Center City Philadelphia as a financial analyst for the Yoh Group, a division of Day & Zimmerman. He lives in Conshohocken, PA.

John Schilling - P (Charlie's Bar) 

John struck out 21 in a 6-1 win over the Delco Tigers.  John is returning to baseball after a two-year recovery from a variety of knee injuries.  He played at the University of New Hampshire and Upper Dublin High School, as well as in the Perkiomen League.  John is 24 and works as an accountant with Fleer/SkyBox International LP.  He lives in Dresher, PA.
